[Resolved] Unable to modify store-locator.js to add new field

  • I added a (days open) field to all the proper places in this plugin. The only thing left to do is edit the store-locator.js to display the data on the map. Unfortunately when I add anything to this file, the map no longer loads. In all other plugin files I would just copy the hours code and add a (days) but on the js file this logic does not work. I had this working just fine on Version 1.2.41. Obviously it was time to start over fresh and upgrade, but I have to recode the customizations I made.

The Custom Field Manager addon handles this since v2.0 — available as part of the Addons Platform package, or now, individually (+ Addons Platform Lite).

The problem with hacking base plugin files is that you will lose your changes, or worse, won’t do updates because you don’t want to lose changes, which leaves you far behind.

With constant updates by both WordPress and Google Maps (V2 -> V3 transition; V4 in future?), in addition to Store Locator updates (some of which are security-related), there needed to be something to solve this issue. That’s where the Addons Platform comes in — a customization layer that powers the addons that give you your needed functionality, while leaving you able to make timely updates.
