  • Use an FTP tool such as FileZilla or your host provided file manager to upload and overwrite your theme’s function.php file…Then, make sure to do a full site files and db backup prior to any site edits…so you can quickly put files back in place with syntax or codding errors..you may also be able o ask your host if they have a backed up version they can restore.

I have asked my host if they have a back up but they are now unavailable over the bank hol weekend. Can anyone suggest anything more I can do resolve this quicker please?

    Thank you

You can try downloading a copy of your theme to your local computer and then using FTP – replace the entire functions.php file in your theme with the new copy.

Thank you WPyogi, where would I be Ble to download a copy of the theme from?

Here you are – this part is easy 🙂

And the morale to this story is, only edit your code via ftp as, you can quickly perform and “undo” on your ?.php page, and save it… you may experience a short outage but… I use a local server on my home equipment to “experiment” once it works locally then, try it on the server… the replace the theme is the quickest solution in your case… I concur with WP on this one…
