  • FTP into your site (or use whatever file management application your host provides) and delete the W3 Total Cache folder in wp-content/plugins.

The problem started prior to my uploading W3 Total Cache. I have several websites on bluehost shared hosting and three days ago I started having trouble logging into my sites. Sometimes I was able to log in and sometimes not.I had also just started creating a new WP website yesterday morning and then in the afternoon , I tried to log in and got the message,”Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 122880 bytes) in /home1/videoga7/public_html/shoppinggamesonline/wp-admin/includes/template.php on line 1570.” I contacted bluehost and they advised my installing W3 Total Cache. This morning I was able to log in to my one site with the most traffic, plus my new site and upload W3 Total Cache. But when I went to activate plugin on my high traffic site, the screen went blank. When I went to log in to a new site I have just set up , I recieve Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 122880 bytes) in /home1/videoga7/public_html/shoppinggamesonline/wp-admin/includes/template.php on line 1570. again.

So deleting W3 Total Cache folder in wp-content/plugins will not correct the original problem of Excessive resource usage.

    Respectfully,
    Gary

Sorry – I thought you said you wanted to remove W3 Total Cache. You need to increase the memory available to PHP:

    Gary,

You have to be careful increasing your memory limit on shared hosting. While bluehost is a great host for smaller sites, if you are running many resource intensive sites you should look into a VPS instead. I recommend using http://linode.com.

    Thanks esmi and WP forum!

Changed the line in PHP.ini where line shows 32M to 256M.

Three frustrating days but only five minutes to solve!

Glad I could help. But bear in mind kfawcett’s warning. If your site is pulling in some heavy traffic, you might want to start looking for alternative VPS hosting now rather than later when the site is struggling.

    Gary,

Per Bluehost you should not go above 128M.

You can increase the limit to 128 but please keep in mind that if you have numerous applications using large amounts of RAM you can run the risk of having your account deactivated

Unfortunately, I don’t put much stock in the recommendations of any web host; mileage varies.
