Today I was working on my WP site and all was well. I noticed it was time to upgrade to the newest version, so I clicked to do an automatic install. It failed, but I’m not sure why. I closed the window, went back to my site (which is still there). Clicked on my homepage link to get me to the log-in screen. It gets me there, but only by doing a re-direct which it never did before.

When I get to the login, I type in my name and PW, then I get a “page cannot be displayed.”

Not sure what file got messed up, or how to fix.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you so much,

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php

Update – I was able to contact my host, who manually installed the WP update for me and now it appears to be working, although I’m still not sure why I see a “redirect” in the address bar when I go to my log-in screen. it never did this before. At least now I can log in. Is it going to be this way, with the latest WP version?
