• I recently had a problem with a site, that, it turns out, was caused by a plugin. I restored the site from a backup, and the normal functionality is back.

However, I want to update the current theme, which is old and not supported, but every time I try to do a “live preview” of any other theme (included the base WP themes) I get the “A critical error…website.” error.

PHP is up to date at 7.4. Resources are well above normal (max execution time, etc) so I am currently stumped!

Is this likely a Db problem? It’s a client’s site and it’s ecommerce, so I have to be very careful not to break it. Thanks!

  • Hello,

Start by activating debug mode to check what is causing the critical error.
I leave you a guide to see how to activate it.

    Have a good day 🙂

Thanks. This output a huge file, which I’m having a hard time parsing myself!

You don’t have to check the whole file. Just look at the last lines that were added by the last call. Look at the time at the beginning of each line to see that. Feel free to post the section (not everything from the file!) here if you want people to look at it.
