• Please help me.

I am unable to log in.

    When I go to http://hispanictips.com/wp-admin

    I get this message:

“It doesn’t look like you’ve installed WP yet. Try running install.php.”

I have tried 4 times. I am using Mac OS 10.1.5, Netscape 7.

I appreciate your answers, thank you,

    Basni

  • Did you create a database on your server for it? And edit your configuration file? What error do you get when you try and run “install.php”?

    Thanks for replying.

I did the First step of the installation, to fill in my e-mail address.

Then I did the Second Step (‘Now we’re going to create the database tables and fill them with some default data”) and they gave me an username and password. But when I clicked the log in address “wp-login.php” I kept getting the same message “It doesn’t look like you’ve installed WP yet. Try running install.php.” When I clicked “install.php” I kept getting the “Welcome to WordPress installation” page.

    I appreciate your help.

Yes, but did you create the database on your server?

You can’t even run anything unless you’ve created the database on your server first. right there in the installation instructions:

“2. Open up wp-config-sample.php with a text editor like WordPad or similar and fill in your database connection details

You need to have logged into your server and, depending on what your webhost allows you to to, you need to create a database, and associate a username and password for that database. Then put those items (database name, username and password) into your wp-config” file. Upload it – and *then* run your install.

I did not create a database server. I think the problem is that I don’t have a blog, and I need this, right? I did not know I had to. I usually got feeds from hispanictips.com through My Yahoo!

    Thanks

Hopefully It’s ok that I’m using this blog, but I also am unable to install.
When I open “http://www.saddlebackcovenant.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php” the format is messed up. I have set up the database and adjusted the wp-config file with my connection details.
A couple notes- I am using Cox hosting with a Windows platform and the database i have set up with them is MS-SQL (not MySQL). It would be too much of a hassle to switch to Unix.

Thanks for any help you can provide-

MS-SQL won’t work. It must be mySQL

Cox support expressed that they could not provide a cox-supported MySQL database with the Windows platform. Either i switch to Unix or I set it up myself. Does this sound accurate?

    Thanks.

Why not just set up a free blog at http://wordpress.com/ ?

    I would move host.

Thanks for the advice guys. I’m gonna have to stay with Cox for this site, but for future sites i will use a more flexible host. I’m just going to google “free blogs using MS SQL” or something to try and get one for this site.

Either i switch to Unix or…

Switch to unix, it will make your life easier! Why would you stay on Win?

Honestly, I can’t give you an educated answer to that, but the advice I’ve received is that switching to Unix could be a mess. Why? don’t know- could be bad advice. I know that the operating system used to create a site from your own computer doesn’t necessarily dictate which platform you must use to host your site. I just don’t know what effects switching to Unix at this point would have.

I have Win on my computer (from where I write now) and I’d never get hosted on a Win machine, only Unix. They have nothing to do with each other.

If switching “could be a mess” that means the host people don’t know their job. Was it the host giving that advice?
And what can be worse than not being able to install it?

No it wasn’t the host. In fact, they haven’t been very helpful with advice. It was from a friend that is more tech-savvy than I (supposedly).
So you don’t think there would be any hassles involved in switching platforms?
Thanks for your time by the way-

Oh, you already have a website on that server? Hmm, even so I don’t think there should a problem – unless you are using some proprietary code that works exclusively on Windows server.
But, please, don’t quote me on this… (initially I had the impression it is about starting a new site, that’s why I advocated so strongly the switch)
Maybe somebody with more indepth knowledge about servers could give you better directions.
