Hi, when you reinstalled, were you forced to reconnect? If not, could you try that?

And if that doesn’t work and it is an account level thing, you’ll need to reach out to support directly. But I do think disconnecting and reconnecting should do the trick.

Hi, no not forced to connect, I just see the green Jetpack window telling me to finish setting up Jetpack. When clicking Setup Jetpack I get the error. How can I reconnect from the WordPress admin?

Where exactly can I reach out to support directly?

    Thanks!

Ok, but I don’t have a paid plan? What am I supposed to do in that case?

Ok, I am logged in to my wordpress.com account, but all I’m seeing is this:

But I don’t see a form? I tried in several browsers?
Maybe there is a problem with my account?

@twansparant – investigating a bit further, it looks like that method for free users to contact support is not working at the moment, but I’m confident we can get this sorted here.

You mentioned you’re using “Bedrock” which is new to me and it might be the source of the issues here?

Looking at your site’s page source, it indicates that your WordPress install files are split under two different directories.

    https://www.problemenmetjustitie.nl/app/
    https://www.problemenmetjustitie.nl/wp/

We need to see that your WordPress install in a single directory – we’re taking the URL entered in Settings -> General -> WordPress URL as the URL where we’re expecting to see the Jetpack files in addition to your site’s XMLRPC file. Since they’re split between different directories, you’re going to run into trouble connecting. I’m not sure if that’s how you set things up or if that’s how Bedrock set it up, but that does need to be fixed in order to use Jetpack.

You’ll need to fix your install so that your entire WordPress install is under a single directory (and reflected in the Settings -> General page), then try connecting again.

Let us know if you still have this problem and we’ll be happy to take a closer look.

    Thanks for your reply @csonnek!

Bedrock is widely used WordPress boilerplate which puts WordPress in its own subdirectory wp/ and renames wp-content/ to app/ so you can use composer to install wordpress and it’s plugins:

    https://github.com/roots/bedrock/blob/master/config/application.php#L52-L57
    https://github.com/roots/bedrock/blob/master/config/application.php#L125-L130

My WordPress-address URL is therefore: https://www.problemenmetjustitie.nl/wp
and my Site address URL: https://www.problemenmetjustitie.nl

The wordpress files are under: /wp/
The plugins (and therefore the Jetpack files) are under: /app/plugins/

XMLRPC works just fine in this setup, I developed 50+ websites with this boilerplate and haven’t encountered any problems with any other plugin?

So my install isn’t broken and I’m not able to fix it. It seems Jetpack doesn’t support custom WP_CONTENT_DIR or WP_CONTENT_URL folders?

In that case I won’t try to fix this, but I will convince my client to find an alternative for the used Jetpack functionalities.

    Thanks

    Sorry to hear that.

We *might* have been able to fix this by specifying an alternate location for your XMLRPC. If you’re willing, could you disconnect and try reconnecting again to see if that helps?

Disconnect how? I was never able to do this anywhere?

Pardon. Please go ahead and try connecting now.

@twansparant sorry for the delay in getting back to you and sorry for the confusion.

The wordpress files are under: /wp/
The plugins (and therefore the Jetpack files) are under: /app/plugins/

Yes, that is the problem here. We’re expecting Jetpack’s files to be in /wp/wp-content/plugins/ – because /wp/ is set as the install directory. That’s not something we can change or adjust on our end – everything for the WordPress install needs to be under one directory – in your case, the /wp/ one.

So my install isn’t broken and I’m not able to fix it. It seems Jetpack doesn’t support custom WP_CONTENT_DIR or WP_CONTENT_URL folders?

Sadly, we do not. It looks like based on your previous comment that you’ll steer your client towards an alternative since it looks like you can’t deviate from the way the install is set up currently.

If you do end up changing things to be more like a standard WordPress installation and still have trouble, we’ll be happy to help.

Otherwise, we’ll consider this resolved for now.
