Support » Plugin: WP to Twitter » Unable to include WP Author name in tweet

  • Resolved steve49589

    Thank you for this plugin.

When we were first running the plugin, we were able to add the following into the “Update when a post is published” field…

    #title# (by #author#) #rvo #tcot #url#

Notice the ‘(by #author#)’ reference. Since we have multiple authors on the blog, we wanted to reference the author’s name in the Tweet as it is shown in WordPress. That worked, but now it’s just pulling the Twitter handle for the main account. We want to pull the author’s name from WordPress, so if their name is Joe Smith, it shows as (by Joe Smith).

    It did work before. Suggestions?

Are you on the latest version? There was a bug in the #author# shortcode that I fixed in version 2.7.4, so if you’re older than that, that could be the issue.

Also, the tag specifically pulls the user’s display_name; if the user doesn’t have a display_name set, then it wouldn’t come up with a value.

And there could be another bug. But let me know what version of WP to Twitter you’re running, so I know.

    Thank you for the reply.

Running Version 2.7.6. We do have the user display names populated.

Running WP 3.7 and just updated to 3.7.1 within the last 24 hours. Here is an example of the tweet that is sent.

    Maybe embed will work…

Looks like a bug – I’ll investigate it and get it patched as soon as I can. It’s been there for a while, I think, so I may wait to release to avoid update fatigue; if you want to get the update sooner, send me a support request and I can send you the patched file before release.

    Thank you!

I was just going in to work on this, and I noticed the #displayname# template tag, which I’d forgotten about. Is there any reason you can’t use that instead of #account#?

I never even saw that sidebar with the additional template tags that are available. I will try that and will let you know if it does not work.

    Thank you again.
