• Hey everyone,

An error that has been plaguing us for a couple months now is the error when trying to edit something in the theme editor:
“Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.”

This is affecting a site I am working on and I cannot seem to find an answer for it. I’ve done research and found that I should use the Health Checker to find a plugin that is the culprit, but the health checker says that the loopback request completed successfully.

If it’s not a loopback issue, then its not a plugin issue, right? And if that’s the case, what else could it be?

Have you also tried switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Seventeen, etc.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
