[Resolved] Unable to connect with site using FTP, only Browser

  • Hi there,

I’m new to WordPress and am having some problems getting started. I’ve already got the website live:

    http://cvfotografie.com/

My problem is that I created an FTP account for the site via my service provider’s cportal, but they also sent me a separate FTP account when I first purchased the domain. I’m not sure which to use.

My understanding of WordPress is that if I edit the code on the text file, then replace the corresponding text file with the new version on the FTP, the changes should then be live. It doesn’t seem to be working with either FTP login.

I can only login to WordPress’ browser version with the /wp-admin at the end of my url.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • It might be worth giving the user support of your web hosting provider a quick call to clarify things for you.

If things seem to be uploading via ftp, but don’t change live then you might have a problem with which account is the ‘owner’ of the files (ie if you dont use the correct username that owns the files then you might not be able to replace them).

I appreciate it! Got it all worked out.
