• I have been unable to find the solution to this problem so I am posting it as a bug report here on this forum. If there is a better place to submit this kind of feedback, please enlighten me.

    Problem Description: I am unable to associate my wordpress account with my Facebook account.

    Preconditions: Installation of wordpress on a publicly accessible server with only one user account (the default created when it was installed). A Facebook account created and configured. A Facebook App created, configured (the Debugger in the Facebook plugin doesn’t show any errors), and approved.

    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Log in to Facebook
    2. Log in to your wordpress installation
    3. Click on Facebook->Social Publisher
    4. Click on link “Add a Facebook account to your WordPress account”
    5. Scroll down to bottom to see Facebook Account heading (note that there are two links displayed: “Associate my WordPress account with my Facebook account” and “Associate my WordPress account with my Facebook account and allow new posts to my Facebook Timeline”)
    6. Click either of the two links that start “Associate my WordPress…”

    Expected Outcome: (not sure but probably some sort of login screen to authenticate against Facebook or maybe a list of connection options and ultimately the two accounts are associated)

    Actual Outcome:
    1. A small window sometimes displays very briefly
    2. The links are replaced momentarily (1 second, roughly) with the text “Please save your edits by submitting the form”
    3. The above text is then replaced by the original links, as if nothing actually happened

    Versions
    Wordpress: 3.9.1
    Plug-in: 1.5.5
    PHP: 5.3.10
    Server Software: Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu)
    cURL: 7.22.0
    OpenSSL: 1.0.1
    WP HTTP
    App ID: 624346840992724

    Thoughts and Questions:
    – Instructions on how to debug this plug-in would encourage other developers to help fix it.
    – All I really want to be able to do is publish notes on my timeline whenever I publish a new blog post. I know there are other plug-ins for this, but I’d like to use the “official” plug-in.

    Regardless, with the changes to Open Graph, the plugin has many, many problems. I was going through and sorting them out and got to the point where I was able to Post and it would include to Facebook, and got this error in WP at the top of the post:

    Failed posting to your Facebook Timeline. Error: {"message":"(#100) You haven't enabled Explicitly Shared for this action type (331247406956072) yet. Please update your Open Graph settings in the App Dashboard","type":"OAuthException"}

    I may dig more later, until then, I have paid work to do.

    So……no fix until now.
    I don’t know if is fine to ask here, but what would you guys suggest to use instead of this plugin? I’ve tried SNAP, but is not the same. On facebook every post is “‘page’ shared a link”. Any other options?

    It seems Facebook did an about face on app approval. Scroll to the end of this page:

    I doubt this will impact, much, our situation.

    I just put the plugin back to normal, and things that weren’t working before are working now, however, it still doesn’t associate the WP user to the FB user properly.

    My app is still pending approval.

    Just a few minutes ago I got my app approved. But the plugin behavior is still the same.

    @pokr777,

    would you mind to post some screenshots of the plugin behavior?

    Did the approve the public_actions permission?

    Same problem here with my current site. I’ve had the same issues with prior sites too, even before the current version of WP. One thing I’ve learned about the plugin is, in my experience, there is a lag time. I’ve simply given up on getting it to work in the past. Then I’ll revisit it a few days later and it’s working. Dunno why. Is it cuz the cache cleared? The sun and moon aligned? Or what? There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. But I do know that it’s a common problem.

    @jessepearson and @tedmaster

    If I follow you, you guys both got snagged in the approval process. @jessepearson, you specifically asked what screenshots were used.

    I got my app publish action approved by using the following tutorial
    http://www.tariq.in/step-by-step-tutorial-on-how-to-share-wordpress-post-using-facebook-open-graph-method-by-facebook-plugin-for-wordpress/

    1st Screenshot: screenshot of your blog’s login page
    2nd Screenshot: screenshot of your wp profile page showing your fb id associated with profile
    3rd Screenshot: screenshot of your write post screen of the WP admin area
    4th Screenshot: screenshot of your first public blog post whose url you provided above in Graph API explorer
    5th Screenshot: screenshot of your time line activity where you received notification of publish post made by Graph API explorer
    Kindly note: Use same post, for screenshots, whose URL you provided above in Graph API explorer

    However, now, I’m experiencing a different problem that I’ll post in a separate thread (unable to get Social Publisher to publish to page).

    @alex.hruzewicz My app was approved to “publish an article” as described within the plugin, I just didn’t post it here because there are still problems with the plugin and the Open Graph API.

    I got the user account to sync, whether if it was in my modified version or not (or maybe both), I don’t recall, but after that there are more problems as you have described in your new thread.

    This plugin is a wall full of nail holes, it’s going to need quite a few patches before it gets a fresh coat of paint.

    @alex.hruzewicz I too had my app approved but was unsuccessful associating my wordpress user account with my Facebook account. Although I could see the links in the plug-in control panel, clicking them (when logged out of Facebook) would allow me to log in to Facebook, but then nothing apparent would happen. If I was already logged in to Facebook, clicking the link to associate the account would appear to do nothing.

    HTH,

    Ted

    I’m having the same issue with WP 1.9.3. It seems like this issue is unrelated to app approval and that the plugin is simply broken right now. The list of plugins I have active are:

    Custom Field Template 2.2.1
    The Events Calendar 3.6

    Blank Facebook!

    Won’t approve app even though publish to article is allowed. Even denied after submitted app because that functionality is already approved! Ridiculous. Has nothing to do with the plugin. Problem with Open Graph.

    @kmaninaustin correct, the problem is not with the approval, it is with the Open Graph API itself.

    Too much was changed without a fallback. So, the plugin is expecting to receive “apple, orange, banana”, and it receives “apple, orange, watermelon”. Since it doesn’t have the programming to know what to do with the watermelon, it smashes it like Gallagher and leaves a mess for the rest of us to clean up.

    Any news on that issue ? I still have the problem and Facebook doesn’t want to approve my app because theu said we don’t need it…
