  • Hi,

I recently bought a domain and decided to host the site via godaddy and purchase wordpress hosting.

I got my site up and running and started building it, I am not a coder or a web designer but I thought it would be a good hobby and I could learn as I go along. Anyway I downloaded a really cool plugin called ‘Featured Content Gallery’ but was strugling to get it fully functional. Basically you need to create a new post and use the custom fields to add specific tags to link it all up but the custom fields were not being displayed to allow me to do this when I was creating new posts.

So I stumbled across this URL –

I couldnt figure out were the below code was meant to go:

    <?php include (ABSPATH . ‘/wp-content/plugins/featured-content-gallery/gallery.php’); ?>

So I visited the editor and stuck it in the middle, wghich disabled the plugin. Then I tried entering at the top of the code. This is when my problems started. Now when I visit the site I get the below message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_user_logged_in() in /home/content/38/8464438/html/wp-includes/query.php on line 2478

Whats even worse is that when I try to access my WordPress admin I also get this below. So I can’t even log back into change the code and fix the problem.

The worse thing is that I have spent about a considerable amount of hours building the site and to have to start again would be soul destroying.

I contacted godaddy to seek help and they told me the below:

This error is generally caused by a plug-in or theme being called incorrectly; we recommend disabling your current themes and plug-ins to determine if one of those is the cause of the issue.

Hit the nail on the head, the only problem is how the hell do I login to my wordpress admin to make any changes? I tried to find a contact number for wordpress or an email address and all I could find is this forum?

I guess if nobody can help I will have to switch my domain to new hosting and then switch back again, which will mean that I will have to start all over again! FML!

    The site is

Has anybody else encountered this type of message, how can I unplug the theme or plugin without being able to access my wordpress login.

Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

The problem is I dont use FTP, I just use the browser based wordpress admin. 🙁

you can also use your host’s file manager.

OK sorry for being a noob idiot but how do I do that?

Because you cannot use the wp-admin anymore your only option is to use ftp or the file management application your host provides. Try downloading FileZilla and use the instructions to connect to your server:

Thanks keeseimeijer. Filezilla client or server?

    Try it with “client”

Just to answer your question about your host’s file manager; you should be able to login to Godaddy. They’ll provide you with some sort of web interface to manage your website. One of those tools will be a file manager. The specifics depend on your host. I don’t use Godaddy so I can’t give more specific instructions.

However, since you’re already trying the FTP method just go ahead with that.

Hello Bonushunter, once you get this issue resolve may I suggest that you create a backup using xcloner here is the link and make sure that from now on you create regular backups while you update or add more content to your website. This will in the future eliminate this current situation and head aches. If you need any assistant let me know. It will be my pleasure to help you.

    Kind regards

Thanks I downloaded the client but struggling with to login. The instructions say:

You will need the following details regarding the FTP account on your server:

Your website ftp address (usually if your URL is
    Your ftp username
    Your ftp password

If you do not already have an FTP account on your server, use your cPanel or website administration tool to set one up — it will have all the information needed. If in doubt, ask your host for directions or help regarding an FTP account for your use to access your webspace.

As far as I am aware I do not have an FTP account and I am unable to use the website admin tool as I cant login to wordpress.

Any further help here would be very much appreciated?

Mrbsolution, I will definately be backing everything up if I can get the site back up again. Thanks.

Ah ha I figured it out and now I am logged in. 🙂

Boom the sites back, thank you so much guys. Plus if this happens again I have the FTP as a fall back, so I have learnt something new. Now for that back up. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Happy to know that you resolved this issue 🙂 well done 🙂 🙂
