Support » Fixing WordPress » Unable to Access website

  • Hi! We are unable to access the backend

The domain for was bought on GoDaddy.com . The website however runs on WordPress. The website is active but we are unable to access it’s backend. I can demonstrate proof of ownership as I have Invoice Numbers on the receipt , acknowledging the purchase of the Managed WordPress website.

I need help to recover the account so that we could start maintaining it . We also think, the email used to register IHFs WordPress account was [ Redacted, support is not offered via email, Skype, instant messenger, etc. ] . Vishad has since left the organisation and his email deleted.

Hence, I need help bridge this issue, by making [ Redacted, support is not offered via email, Skype, instant messenger, etc. ] the our registered email/correspondence ID.

One way would be to get Vishad’s email address set up again so that you can receive the password reset email.

When you say you have an invoice for “Managed WordPress Website” do mean managed hosting, or do you have a developer who maintains your site for you. Perhaps you could reach out to whoever sent you that invoice if they are managing your website.

There are other ways to gain access to the back end, but you’d need ftp access to the site.

Also, make sure you’re using ihf.in, not http://www.ihf.in – there’s possibly a problem with your DNS settings.

    Hi Neil,

The WordPress site was developed using WordPress tools by an intern in house. It is just being maintained now and we simply use basic functions to upload and update content. (It was being done so, till this current predicament)

“Also, make sure you’re using ihf.in, not http://www.ihf.in – there’s possibly a problem with your DNS settings.” Thank you for this. I am hence able to now access the backend page.

So now we’re simply unable to login into the backend itself, upon entering the username and password. And we do not possess or know the email to which the password reset is sending the recovery password link. Can you help me trace it ?

We cannot recover Vishad’s account now since it has been over a year since it was deleted, and Gmail does not allow recovery after this long ( as far as I understand). So are you saying we create a new email ID by the same name ,and perhaps the recovery mail will reach that email address ?

    Thanks,

    Hiya,

If the password reset emails don’t go to Vishad’s email address then you have a few options still to reset it. There’s a page on the Codex about them: https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

At this stage they will all require access to either the database or files of you website. When you start altering either of these things it’s possible to completely break your site – please be careful and ask if you don’t understand anything! I would strongly urge you to TAKE A BACK UP of your site, and KNOW HOW TO RESTORE IT.

Your next step: Find out who your website is hosted with and ask them:

    1. How do I take a full back up of my site including the files and database?
    2. Can you reset my admin password please?
    3. If not, how do I access PHPMyAdmin?

Then report back here if you’d like some more help 🙂

    Good luck!
    Neil
