Unable to access draft entries

I’m using version 0.8.5 in WP 5.5.3 running Exhibit theme (PHP 7.4.12 @64BitOS). In the admin UI, I noted that accessing items in the trash is not straightforward. I need to select the “Filter” button (again) to make them appear, even though no selection criteria are active. The categories “All” and “Published” result in instant displays. That’s a little inconvenient, but workable.
However, the situation with drafts is far less workable: I don’t always finish an event entry to a publishable level, so would like to save it as draft until ready for publishing. In addition, I really would like to keep a (set of) template(s), which would make adding new entries much easier. Sadly, whenever I save an entry as draft, it shows up in the selection header of the admin UI, but I see no possibility to access these drafts — the selection GUI does nothing, i.e., I can neither see a list of drafts, nor can I edit & publish any of these. In fact, I can’t even delete the drafts from the admin UI. Am I missing something here?
