    Hi there,

I opened a topic previously to get assistance with tracking users on this site.
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-track-logged-in-users/

I apologise for being slow to follow up as I was offline and not working on this.

I have tried disabling all caching and login plugins and resetting SiteKit.
It does not seem to be connecting properly though.

Do I need to set up tag manager as well?
Or should the plugin work out of the box?

I cannot see any users in real time.
I do have a Maintenance Mode plugin turned on as I have to show something to users.

Would that be affecting the way the site is loading/tracking SiteKit?

    CHeers!
    John

@mrlennyman For https://ironfish.com.au (without the “ifc” prefix) I can see there is existing Analytics code.

Please inform me of the following:
    1. Did you try and connect Site Kit while temporarily deactivating the login/maintenance plugin?
    2. When you say the plugin does not seem to be connecting property do you see an error message or notice? Please inform me of the error or notice.

Once we know of the above we should be able to assist further.

    Hi @jamesosborne

Yes – the main site (without the prefix) has analytics functioning properly.

    1. Yes – I disabled all caching, login and maintenance plugins when connecting to the latest version of the Site Kit Plugin.

    2. Both Search Console and Analytics come back with the same check back later error.
But nothing happens. I have used the plugin on many sites now and this is the first time I am getting these issues.

    “Analytics Gathering Data

Analytics data is not yet available, please check back later.

Please let me know how I can troubleshoot more.

    Many thanks!

@mrlennyman If a new Search Console property was created it may take time for data to appear. In the meantime I can test the same login plugin you are using, can you share the plugin, or preferably share your Site Health information?

If you prefer to share privately you can use this form.

The Analytics and Search Console properties were created months ago – and I think Sitekit was connected previously – just did not seem to be tracking the users properly

I did just fill out that form and submitted the info required.

Here is a link to the Login plugin we are using:

Thanks for you r help on this

@mrlennyman I’ve tested the free version of the plugin you’re using although I don’t encounter any errors with a basic configuration.

From checking your site further I don’t see the Site Kit generator tag on your primary site at present (https://ironfish.com.au) although I do see it when using https://ifc.ironfish.com.au.

Do you have a separate site behind the ifc prefix login wall, where users must sign into, or once logged in are they directed to ironfish.com.au?

    Thread Starter mrlennyman

    (@mrlennyman)

So the two sites are run separately – one is for customers, one is for staff.

While the ifc one is on a subdomain, it has separate hosting and they are not connected aside from in name.

So once a staff member goes to the ifc.ironfish.com.au site, they are brought to the wp-admin login page, then directed to the home page of that site.

    Does that make sense?

    (@jamesosborne)

@mrlennyman Thanks for clarifying, that makes sense.

To go back to your initial problem of tracking visitors to your site can you check your “Exclude from Analytics” settings within the Analytics module (Site Kit > Settings > Connected Services > Analytics > Edit)? Ensure that you are including logged in users, and then check your real time report from within analytics.google.com?

Check also that you can see the Analytics tracking code snippet in your source code after ensure your are tracking logged in users.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    (@mrlennyman)

    Hi @jamesosborne

OK I double checked the analytics code and it is now set to track logged in users.
It was previously, but seems to have been switched off.
But now it is 100% tracking them.

The real time report is not showing any people on the site.

And Site Kit is still showing as “Gathering Data”.

Where can I see the Analytics tracking code snippet? Is it when I inspect the page?
    view-source:https://ifc.ironfish.com.au/about/
I viewed the source coed of the website and could only find the Tag Manager tracking code.
    <!– Google Tag Manager (noscript) –> <noscript><iframe src=”https://www.googletagmanager.com/ns.html?id=GTM-KDNXTS7&#8243;

Is there something else that should be there and where can I find it?

    Cheers!
    John

    (@jamesosborne)

@mrlennyman Correct that you can find the code snippet by viewing the source code. Note that it may not be possible to view the full Analytics property code (UA-xxxx) if you’re using an existing Tag Manager implementation of Analytics before setting up Site Kit. I suspect this may be the case for your site, with the Tag Manager reference you supplied.

If you’ve used Site Kit to place the snippet for you you’ll also notice it’s contained within a Google Tag Manager snippet, although you should be able to see the full tracking ID (UA-xxxx) when viewing the source code.

As I can’t check the source code of your site behind the login wall can you try the following:
    1. Remove any existing Analytics or Tag Manager implementations on your site, placed outside of Site Kit
    2. Reset Site Kit
    3. Setup the plugin once more
    4. Connect the Analytics module to the correct property ID and that “All website data” is the option select in “Views”
    5. After connecting the Analytics module check the module settings. Ensure the snippet is placed by Site Kit and logged in users are counted
    6. Check your site source code front the front end (not the login screen) and ensure there is a ua-… code
    7. Visit your Analytics account and check the live report while logged in

Let me know if that works for you. If not can you confirm the same setup works on any other sites you have using the same hosting provider?

    Thread Starter mrlennyman

    (@mrlennyman)

    Hi James,

OK – that seems to have done the trick – the SiteKit plugin is still gathering data and not showing any info in the Wp-ADMIN, but the visitors are registering in the Analytics account.

I will check back in and let you know when the data comes across.

What is the longest period of time that can take?

    Thanks for all your help.

@mrlennyman many thanks for the follow up! Time may vary, but it can take up to week in some cases (mostly for brand new sites). For the vast majority, less than a couple of days. Feel free to let us know how it goes for you!

@mrlennyman I’m checking if the data has appeared in the Analytics dashboard for the site?

    Thread Starter mrlennyman

    (@mrlennyman)

    Hey @reneesoffice
Yes..the analytics are now showing in the site dashboard – thnak you for following up!
The Search COnsole does not connect, but I am assuming this is due to all the redirect and login plugins – also not an issue for this site as nobody is searching for it.
So everything has been resolved – thanks again!

@mrlennyman Many thanks for the update. If you’d like to open a support topic in relation to the Search Topic issue we’d be happy to investigate if you wish. With your site behind a login wall I would be curious to know more on this specific issue.
