    Hi,

I was hired by an employer that has three highly customized wordpress sites. While I have generally no problem with how they look, functionality-wise they are weak and editing anything ends up being a time-sink, especially since I’m not a coder/programmer. Also, the sites they created aren’t responsive, and that’s been bugging me since I started.

What I’d like to do is bring the site closer to a standard wordpress template, where I can still customize the look through more conventional means (the wordpress software) instead of having to go in and write/edit/delete code from our documents that are uploaded to the host.

How would I go about doing this? Do I have to go to the host and delete the CSS file?

    Thanks for the help!

No need for that, just go to Appearance -> Themes in your blog’s Dashboard and install a new theme, then activate it.

You can have as many themes installed as you want, so you can test out a whole bunch, while still keeping the old theme around just in case.

There’s actually several themes already that have been downloaded and installed. I’m worried about using them because of the customization troubles that plague the current theme.

I actually thought that when I updated to a newer version of the theme, but instead the customizations stuck around when I thought they would revert to the theme’s standards. For instance, I made a new .php file (wanted a proper marketing landing page and this theme didn’t provide one), but when I update a theme it gets erased (good thing I keep a backup copy).

I’m just curious why some customizations stick around while others don’t.

But sure, I could definitely try just installing and activating a completely new theme all together.

Well, which customizations are you talking about specifically?

Most customizations are applied directly to the theme, some are applied via the Dashboard, and some can be applied via plugins too.

Knowing which would go a long way to helping us help you. 🙂
