• Hello to all,

Just want to ask what the best practice is for installation of UM.

I have a site example.com which has a single install of WP then i have a separate install of WPMU in domain example.com/member

What i am finding (and i dont know if this is due to the set up of installation directory) is that when a new user registers on example.com/members/ they are automatically added as an admin of example.com/member.

When new user goes to create their own blog account, it says “you already have 1 blog, set up another, your current blogs are example.com/member and this is not what i want for them, Yes i want them to be registered on example.com/members as there is information there only available for logged in users but i dont want them to be registered in respect of the system assigning them as admins to the main site (example.com/members) I ONLY want them to become admins of their OWN site once they create it but i cannot figure out if its due to the install locations or an internal setting that i should change.

If you can offer any help i will be eternally grateful.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi @trafficlinkking,

Can you please check the current ‘New User Default Role’ set in WP Admin > Settings > General in both sites?

Additionally, when a user registers on any of the sites in your network setup, they will be able to access or login to your sites because this is by design. You can use third-party plugins to block them from accessing other sites in your network setup.

    Thanks.

I get that, but i guess what im trying to ask is how should my site set up look?

currently i have a single WP install as my main site (example.com), that then links through to a new directory with a new install of wordpress (multisite @ example.com/members)

The main site page is example.com then when user clicks through to members, it shows a page that’s accessible by everyone and this is then the page they go on to register to the site through

NOW, this seems to mean that when ever someone registers they are regstered to example.com/members and this means that they have access to the example.com/members site admin area and the example.com/members shows up in the users list of sites.

I only want the user to be able to access their OWN site admin panel and not that of the site owner (me) SO should my install of UM be on example.com instead of example.com/members and instead of having the registration page on a example.com/members should i simply protect the example.com/members using UM?

Ive been searching and searching and cannot find ANY source of information explaining how to set up UM with WPMU in order for best practice use.

    Thanks
