I’ve installed ubuntu, and I think I’ve installed everthing to get it running as a webserver ie mysql, php, apache, but I’ve probably missed something being totally new at this.

When I access wordpress from the machine it’s on, it’s fine, but when I try and access wordpress from a network machine the first thing that happens is that only the html part of the page is displayed without the css, and then if I click on anything it says ‘connection refused’ any idea what I’m doing wrong?

    thanks

I should add that the connection refused is to local host.

    gav.

localhost always refers to the machine on which you are currently operating. If you are using a workstation, and try to browse to localhost/wp-admin/edit.php, the browser will think that you’re trying to access a web server running on your workstation.

You need to access your Ubuntu system by its hostname, or IP address.

    got it:

I didn’t change the URI in the options setting so both pointed to the http://localhost altered it to the machines ip and all working!

    thanks skippy.
