# two issues with .htaccess

 * I have a new client and a new host with a homegrown control panel. Recently upgraded
   the blog to 2.5. I got the bright idea to protect wp-admin at the server level
   by password-protecting that directory. Worked great, except that EVERYONE was
   challanged for the password, editors, subscribers etc. it wasn’t a popular fix.
   Before I went to the admin panel to remove it, I noticed that my host didn’t 
   have .htaccess in that directory, or anywhere else that I could find.
 * So question, does WordPress handle all password functions in wp-admin, so this
   is normal, or is the host doing something weird?
 * My other issue, not sure it is really related, when I try to activate permalinks,
   everything gets a Permalink, including my footer image, which dissappears of 
   course. I can put it in the background for that container and get around it I
   think, but again, is this normal for WordPress?
 * I’m thinking of trying the Ask Apache plugin to treat my first issue, but I’m
   not sure that it would work either under the circumstances.

 * WordPress does not add any authentication stuff to any .htaccess files.
 * _I can put it in the background for that container and get around it I think,
   but again, is this normal for WordPress?_
 * No.
