 * I just installed WordPress with the K2 theme, and configured it as a website.
 * Turns out the client (college counselor) needs not one, but two blogs for two
separate audiences: one for college students and one for parents of college students.
I’m trying to decide the best way to set this up for both optimal usability and
   optimal search.
 * I thought of using the existing blog functionality and two post categories (students,
parents), but I’m not sure this provides sufficient separation between the audiences.
There really should be two separate subscriptions.
 * Then I thought of using the blog functionality of the existing site for one audience,
and installing another instance of word press in a sub-directory for the other
audience. The draw back is having a second content management system.
 * Another option is two entirely different websites.
 * I will welcome any suggestions, comments, resources, ideas.

 * If I were building the site, I would opt for two different categories. Not sure
what you mean by subscription… in the event that you mean subscription by rss
feed, wordpress will automatically create a feed for each category. Check out
the [random category feed](http://mfields.org/news/random/feed/) from my site-
   > all other categories are excluded.

 * I use 2 separate WP installs each in their own sub-directory, one is configured
to run my whole site. Works fine for me. Once they are set up comments Spam should
be about all you need to do between software updates.
 * There are several people here that have up to 6 or 8 individual blogs on the
   same site.
 * Two separate sites is probably overkill.
