Two blogs on one installation or two?

  • Hello, I’m wanting to have two distinct blogs on the same domain with different permalink structures, one using the entry ID and the other the article name.

The one with the entry ID is for a personal journal, so I’d like properly serialised numbers. If the articles are posted in the same system, they’d interfere with the serialisation.

Could I perhaps maintain a custom field for the personal journal in combination with the Advanced Permalinks plugin, or something like that?

I’m new to WordPress but experienced in PHP so if bespoke coding is required I can resort to that.

    Cheers 🙂

  • Hi,

You can install Blog on same domain with different permalinks but for that you have to install 2 blogs in two different directories…

As an alternative you can install wordpress MU – multiple blogs on the same domain and manage multiple blogs

    Thanks,

    Shane G.

Thanks Shane. I’ll have to look into this further, I think it’s going to take some experimenting to achieve what I want.

WordPressMu is really overkill for that purpose. Just create two different blogs and use the same user database.

What I want to achieve is seralised ID’s for the personal blog.

    It will be something like:

    /life/entry/1

    While the articles will be:

    /tech/article/this-is-the-article-name

I was thinking I could manually put the entry number in its title:

    “1: Hello, World!”

And then use the number before the colon as the permalink?
