I have run the plug-in and theme test and still have the problem. Oddly, twice I have managed to get a window up with the Twitter account showing. But, even though I have gone one at a time removing the plugins and then adding them back one at a time, so I knew exactly which one had been activated/deactivated, I could not replicate the success.
I am using Virtue theme. Is it something to do with it allowing you to press the button once only? That might seem to be the case on one of the records that was successful.
The other thing is that I am running this locally as it is test using Desktop Server – but all other links etc to FB and Twitter work fine, so I don’t think it is that.

An update on this thread:
Anyone else who runs into this issue–there’s a limitation on Twitter where you can’t follow your own Twitter account. In order to test the follow functionality, you need to have a separate handle to follow from the account you’re logged in as.
For example, if I’m @businessdirectory, I can’t try and follow @businessdirectory, but I could follow @wordpress instead.
Make sure you have two separate accounts to test with, or use a handle in the test listing that’s different. That was the issue here.
Mine is back to not working properly… I have many Twitter handles that I’ve added that I do not follow and moving cursor over Twitter button does not allow to follow if moved over and clicked upon

– Who are you logged into Twitter as (the handle)?
– Who are you following in your listing?
– What happens exactly when you click on it? Error message? Nothing? White screen?
– Can you provide a link to the listing so I can test with my account?
– Have you tried a conflict test to see if there’s a Javascript conflict going on?
