Support » Plugin: Jetpack by WordPress.com » Twitter cards suddenly stopped working

    Hello,

Twitter cards for my site have worked perfectly until a couple months ago, when they suddenly stopped working.

Now, when I or anyone else tweets posts (old or new ones) from my site, the Twitter card does not appear. When I check links from my site on the Card Validator, I get this log: “INFO: Page fetched successfully INFO: 18 metatags were found ERROR: No card found (Card error)”.

Is this an issue with JetPack? Thank you!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi there:

Twitter looks for Open Graph (OG) meta tags to produce the Twitter card data. Looking at your site’s source, you don’t have any OG tags being generated.

Jetpack will automatically create these tags for you unless you use another plugin, in which case we let the other plugin handle things and disable our tags.

It looks like you have the Shareaholic plugin installed, which is one that we will disable tag generation for. You can do the following to fix this:

    – Disable and delete Shareaholic and let Jetpack generate your OG tags.
    or
    – Check the Shareaholic settings and ensure that it’s generating OG tags.

That should take care of this for you. Let me know if you still have this problem and I’ll be happy to take a closer look.

    Hi @passionsadnplaces!

Were you able to figure this out?

I checked http://passionsandplaces.com/2017/09/26/a-koh-chang-travel-guide-for-getting-off-the-beaten-path/ in the Twitter validator, and it validated.

We highly recommend using a good SEO plugin that takes care of Open Graph tags if you don’t have one already.

I can confirm the same – and I do see the Shareaholic meta tags being generated in your page source now.

It looks like you may have fixed the issue?

If you don’t want to install yet another plugin, you can use this plugin a colleague of mine wrote to force Jetpack to generate the OG meta tags:

hey @csonnek fyi, Shareaholic will only ever generate the og:image tag and not any other og tag. And this too can be turned off in the Shareaholic plugin settings under “Advanced Settings”. For Twitter Cards to load, one needs og:title, og:url and og:type (or twitter:card) as well.

@shareaholic: TIL! Thanks for clarifying. πŸ™‚

Thanks so much to both of you for your responses, I really appreciate it. I actually haven’t made any changes since I posted this, so I have no idea why it started working again but am glad that it did. Thank you!
