Support » Themes and Templates » TwentyTen – trying to update header.php in child theme

  • Hi,

Im using twentyten but want to modify the header. I have created a child theme and put in style.css and activated the new theme as per the codex instructions. I have then put in a copy of header.php and made changes but its just not being picked up.

Im new to child themes and how they work. Do i need to delete the header.php from the praent directory to make this work?? I have tried modifying that one as a test and the changes show.

Did you add “Template: twentyten” in the header of your Child Theme? It should look something like this:

Theme Name: Your Child Theme Name
    Theme URI:
Description: A child theme of the 2010 default theme for WordPress.
    Author: Your Name
    Author url:
    Version: 1.0
    Tags: put, your, tags, here
    Template: twentyten

Then you put all your styles underneath that.
