Twenty-twelve dashboard menu/ page menu disconnect

I have an extensive main menu, in terms of dropdowns, and I wish to move one item to the far left on the main menu. For some reason, When I set up the menu in the dashboard, it does not arrange the menu on the page correctly. It may be that I need to do all the upgrades, but I thought there may be another option while I am doing so. Any Ideas?
