[Resolved] Twenty Thirteen Theme – Missing Page Templates?

    Hello

    I think the Twenty Thirteen Theme looks great! However I cannot select a page template under Edit Page > ‘Page Attributes’ the only option I have are ‘Parent’ and ‘Order’ the template option seems to be missing, or is it missing by design?

    Can I add page templates to this theme?

    Thanks

    @esmi

    is it missing by design?

    It is missing because there aren’t any custom page templates in the 2013 theme.

    Can I add page templates to this theme?

    Yes – via a child theme.

    Ok great I will look this up, thanks for the link!

    I went and had a look at the link suggested and found it full of data but not much information. I have created a child theme for twentythirteen now all I want to do is create custom page templates that I can use in this theme. where do I find how to DO that? Please

    Hi,

    what i did was copy page.php to my child theme root.
    rename the file to any name you like but end the file with ‘page’ so you know
    what it is for example: test-page.php

    Then open the file up and replace the comments with the following

    <? php
    /*
    Template Name: test-page
    */
    ?>

    save the file, reload your page.Under page > add new page
    template should appear on the right.

    It appears to be a known bug in Twenty Thirteen theme:

    #23599: Twenty Thirteen – Template drop-down does not appear

    I tried to create a custom home page when 2013 was setup as a theme. That
    means making an adjustment in the “Template” drop-down that should appear
    on the page. Sadly, that dropdown wasn’t there.

    I discovered that it only works when placing my custom template directly into the directory twentythirteen.

    Thank you Wiepkje- that worked for me.

    Thanks jafrogg. Your suggestion also worked nicely.

    Thanks you guys–I’m having the same issue… who wants a sidebar on contact or photo gallery–or About me. I hope jafrogg works because I didn’t get the custom template thing.
