    Howdy Folks,

4.7 sports the brand spanking new Twenty Seventeen theme. It seriously rocks !
I can finally leave Twenty Eleven behind.

Since the site I’m supporting for a friend is in the context of a small business, this theme definitely is recommended.

    There is always a but..

I’m using Jetpack to display widgets in the sidebar. Whatever I try, whichever way I approach this, I cannot get the site to display the sidebar.

Tried single and two columns presentation
Cleared browser caches, used different browsers..
    Disabled non-standard plugins..

    All to no avail.

    Any assistance is greatly appreciated
    Hooot

Thanks for all the replies, I am very grateful for your support.

Coding not being my day-job I’m skittish around the area of working with child themes. One reason for that is the frequent updates WP has, where those should also trickle down to child themes (AFAIK).
I once heard a bush pilot say: “Don’t get into situations you can’t get out of”.
(Then he flew of in his helicopter, a contraption that doesn’t want to fly to begin with..so yeah.)

If I get around to build a crash&burn site I will do a deep-dive into Child themes.

My requirement was being able to use sidebars in POST pages to display ads.
My workaround is using the BLOG Sidebar widget, and WP QUADS that sports widgets that can be used in the Blog Sidebar widget.

I’m a happy camper with that since I want ads on POST pages only. WP QUADS also provides options to inject ads in-line of static pages by inserting a call to scripting that comes with WP QUADS. This has solved the problem for me.

    Kind regards,
    Hoot
