[Resolved] Twenty eleven and child themes

  • Hello all,

I am wondering if I need to create a child theme for my website. I was informed twenty eleven is a WordPress feature theme so there likely will not be an update to the theme. Below is my weblink.

I am just starting to customize it using this forum for help, being that I know nothing about programming.

Is a child theme necessary so I do not lose information in the future?

    Thank you,
P.S. Please explain in layman’s terms

  • Yes, you need a child theme. Not jsut for this one, but any time you do modifications. The WordPress core themes like this do get updated, and when they do update, you will loose all of your mods.

    Hi Micheal.mariat,

Thanks for the info. I will try and use a child theme. It seems easy so we will see…

I managed to develop a child theme using this tutorial. which was super clear and easy to use. Also selected a new theme.

check out the link (2createawebsite) if you are also a newbie at WordPress and any form of programming.
