• I am using the default theme Twenty Eleven as a base theme for a website I’m building, I’ve made some customizations to the structure and it all looked great. The changes I made was adjusting the size and title text of the box above the header, added some social media icons on top of the header, and customized text in the footer.

Everything looked great, and then it all disappeared. So I put it all back up again, and then in a matter of days it literally resets back to the default again.

I’m hesitant to give it a third try since it just keeps defaulting back to the original code. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something in the theme code that is causing this?

Thanks for any help or advice.

ps. I’m running “Resize Twenty Eleven Header” plugin in case that relevant.

  • Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues.

Create a child theme for your customisations.

Ah I see, well I was hoping to avoid that because while I can make CSS changes no problem in a child theme, I’ve had a lot of troubling working with functions + php and the changes that keep disappearing are not only CSS elements.

See http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes#Using_functions.php for how to setup functions.php in a child theme.

I did alot of customization to my main Twenty Eleven theme, directly on wordpress wihtout making any backup of my edits.

Alot means AAALLOOT of customization, i spent days on it. Last Saturday when i visited my site, all my edits were reseted to a default Twenty Eleven theme. (WAa WAa WAaaaaaaa)

Does anyone know if i have a chance of getting back my edited version of Theme.

I went to my hosting server and tried to see if i have any autobackup enabled there.. but no luck.

    Please help.
