in regards to this post from FOUR YEARS AGO!

can we please have the option to turn off the "category" base without hacking core?

This insanity has been going on far too long.

  2. There are performance issues behind why that sticks around.

There are plugins, if you insist:

I THINK http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-seo/ can do that too.

(of note http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-no-category-base seems to have been pulled from teh repo, which given it broke a lot of things in 3.0, doesn't shock me)

    1. the no-category-parents plugin is only supported up to version 2.8.5 so i'm not going near it for production sites.

    2. the tag base plugin is not my issue, i'm concerned with the category base

    3. i see nothing in the Yoast documentation to suggest it can toggle off the category/ base

    4. as you mentioned no-category-base is no longer available

The issue remains and needs to be solved by WordPress NOT a plugin. This issue is why i sometimes still build sites in Drupal even though i love WordPress so much.

  4. Just because no-category-parents plugin is only supported up to version 2.8.5 does NOT mean it doesn't work on 3.1. A lot of times, plugins don't need updates. Anyway, it's a test and see thing.

And ... well. No. I know you want it gone, but not everyone does. WP can't be everything for everyone, and that's why there are plugins.

Looks like the no-cat-base moved here: http://wordpresssupplies.com/wordpress-plugins/no-category-base/

I'm using WordPress 3.2 and No Category Base Plugin doesn't work anymore. Well it works but breaks Pagination system now...

If anyone has a solution it would be greatly appreciated :)
