    Hello!

I am basically completely new to WordPress and have started building a website for the museum I’m working at. I chose the theme Twenty Twelve and I would like to get rid of the blog function if possible. Right now when I click the header I come to a page that’s intended for blog posts and I haven’t managed to find anywhere I can turn this off. I would like the header-link to lead the visitors to a page instead, specifically “home” i.e. the first page of the website. Right now the first page that you come to when entering the website is this blog post page. How can I solve this? Is it even possible? And if not – would someone recommend another theme where it’s possible to turn off the blog function? Where the header-link leads to a page of my choosing?

Any help is more than welcome

here’s a link to the website:

  • Hi Edward,

What you’re asking is very possible. First, from your WP dashboard, go to Pages, Add New, and add a couple of new pages, one for the home page and the other for the blog page. Save them. Next, go to Settings, Reading. At the top of the panel, you’ll see: Front page displays: Your latest posts or a static page. Select the Static page option. In the first dropdown box, select the page title of the page you just created for the front page, and in the second dropdown box, select the page title of the page you just created for your blog page.

Finally, go to Appearance, Menus, and add the two pages to your menu. On page load, the site should display your front page, and when you click the menu item for the blog, it should display your posts.

    I hope this helps 🙂

    Hello!

I must admit I don’t quite follow. I go to “Pages” or rather “All Pages” and there I can only see two pages that I have created. One is called “HEM” (which means Home in Swedish), the other one is called “Kontakt & Öppettider” (which means contact & opening hours”. The actual blog page that appears when I click on the header is not displayed in the “Pages” editor…

You can set up a custom menu – which lets you control what shows up in it:

You’ll want to only use static pages –

    And turn off comments:

Static pages is exactly what I want, no blog function whatsoever.

The above should do that, but this plugin may be simpler in terms of totally getting rid of anything comment-related!

ok, that sounds great. but how do I install it on my website? Sorry if my questions sound stupid but I’m truly novice 🙂

Not stupid – it’s a lot of new info when you’re new. Here’s basic info:

If that doesn’t answer everything, just ask again :)!

Oh, I found it 🙂 I have successfully installed the plugin and all “leave a reply” stuff have disappeared. thanks! However, the problem with the header linking to a “post” page is still there. Where can I find this page in the editor and remove it, AND make the header link to a page of my choosing?

Did you set up a custom menu? You’ll also probably want to remove some or all of those widgets that have links to posts.

Appearance > Widgets — drag/drop the ones you don’t want there.
