Trying to take custom post meta data (previously uploaded), make it taxonomy

I have spent hours uploading data to a wordpress installation and created custom meta boxes for some of the data. I now realise that the one custom box called General Class would be better as a taxonomy. So I have created the custom Taxonomy General Class.

The question is does anyone know how to move all the existing data from meta into taxonomy?
