• Hi,
For personal reasons, I need to change my account username and identity. I know I can’t really do that, so I’m trying to just create a new account, but it keeps telling me the email address is already being used, which it isn’t.

On my current account, I used to have the email address [moderated]. I changed the email to something else a couple days ago, but it still won’t let me sign up for a new account using [moderated]. How can I get this accomplished? That email address isn’t associated in any way anymore with my current account – not on Gravatar or WordPress.com.

    Thanks!

Where are you trying to set up an account?

Hi again – I’m trying to create a new account here on the WP Forums, using an old email address that used to be associated with this account, but hasn’t been for a couple weeks – I deleted that email address from this account, and from the Gravatar account. However, when I try to create an account using that email address, it’s telling me it’s already attached to an account. Since it’s not – any ideas how that email address can be released from this account so I can use it for a new account? The email address is [redacted]

    Thanks!

Email addresses are limited to one account, as per system design.

I’m aware of that. As I’ve said, the email address redacted is not associated with an account. It used to be, but I deleted that email from my account a couple weeks ago. It’s not appearing anywhere in my settings or in my Gravatar, so where/why would it still be associated with this account?

The system is designed like that to make it harder for not-so-nice people to abuse the forums. It’s just not possible to use the same email address that you signed up with. Even if you try to change it afterwards.

    Well, booger. Thanks anyway. 🙂
