  • Resolved v.307

    (@victor307)

    Good day,

    Hope you are doing well.

So I’m trying to give the Woocommerce-blocks the right photo-sizes. I have already used the function “Regenerate Shop Thumbnails” twice.

It seems like there is a thumbnails in de desired size available (300×300) for the Woocommerce block , but there is a red warning in Google Speed test: https://ibb.co/GFp4J1m

72,3KiB is the file size of the original photo (900×900).
300×300 could indeed potentially be (53,5KiB) smaller file-size.

How can I make sure the Woocommerce block uses the right scaled images?

The red color in PageSpeed Insights is only there with the “Mobile view”.
“Desktop view” does not give this warning.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

    Best regards,

    Victor307

    Hello,

If the product was created via WooCommerce Blocks, you can use CSS code to adjust the image sizes.

Can you provide a link to the product, please? That will allow us to take a better look.

    Best.

Thanks for the reply. The link I have send is my homepage:
    https://www.temporary-url.com/BFCBB1
And I am having my shop-page, placed on my homepage.

Then I do the Google PageSpeed Insights test, and it says the pictures are not the right sizes. I would think Woocommerce (automatically) makes thumbnails copy photos in the exact sizes that would be needed to fit in.

The test-outcome does seem say the photo size of the photos is 300x300px, but the file size seems to be the original file-size? (Which is way to big for mobile)

    Hi @victor307

It would be helpful to understand the problem better if we could visit the page. The link above doesn’t open to a website.

Is it possible for you to share a copy of your site’s System Status? That will enable us to get an idea of whether any plugin on the site might be interfering with proper display of the images. You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. You can paste it here in your response, after removing any sensitive information.

Woocommerce (automatically) makes thumbnails copy photos in the exact sizes that would be needed to fit in.

This adjustment is actually done by the browser, depending on the screen area of the device. Please be aware that you need to regenerate thumbnails after you make changes to the image sizes. By default WordPress will take the original image if there is no resized thumbnails available. You can easily regenerate your thumbnails with this plugin Regenerate Thumbnails. Also, your original image must be larger than the set size, for example if you set the shop thumbnail to 300×300, the original image must at least be 300×300 or larger.

Let us know how it goes.

    Hi @victor307,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Upon further checking, I suspect it’s the same issue as described in this Github bug report:

    https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/32299

If it does indeed sound familiar, please go ahead and add your own comment and subscribe to the thread for updates. This will give the developers a good idea of the size and impact of the issue and hopefully, it will be resolved within the next releases of WooCommerce.

    Best regards.

    Hi Mirko,

Indeed it does look the same. I will keep my eye on that Github issue.

    Then only my question remains:

May I ask why would I use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin if the Woocommerce plugin already offers this feature? I would imagine the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin would only be usefull the regenerate thumbnails that are not used by Woocommerce?

    Best regards.

    Hi @victor307

why would I use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin if the Woocommerce plugin already offers this feature?

You are right – WooCommerce automatically does the job and doesn’t depend on a separate plugin for the thumbnails. However, the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin can prove to be helpful in situations that require some additional functionality – such as the ones explained here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

I hope this provides clarity. 🙂

    Thanks
