trying to know the usage of certain tags

    I posted the same in a different forum, but got no answer and so i am posting it here.

    when I view the source of the page, that is coming out of WP, inside the <head> tags, I see some links to the monthly archives.

    I do see a set of links inside the <head> tag. and I do not know the actual use of them.

    < link rel=’archives’ title=’April 2005′ href=’http://simpleinside.com/posts/2005/04/&#8217; />

    < link rel=’archives’ title=’March 2005′ href=’http://simpleinside.com/posts/2005/03/&#8217; />

    and so on, I am seeing it for each month.

    since it is in the <head>, no human being is going to see it, as it wont be displayed in the browser.
    so, it must be present, so some process is going to use that info.

    If i am right, then what is that process ?
