Support » Fixing WordPress » Trying to add items to a menu, but the menu may be created outside of WordPress

  • Hi, I’m helping a friend to update her WordPress website (at csourcewisdom.com) because the person who built her website can’t be contacted any more. The problem is that I can’t figure out how to add a link to the navigation menu, despite reading the Codex information about menus. I’m wondering if the problem is that the menu wasn’t built within the WordPress Dashboard’s Appearance/Menus functionality, since the menu doesn’t even appear in the Appearance/Menus area.

I’m hoping someone can tell me what the problem might be, and if the menu was built using hand-coding for example, how I might be able to edit it.

The Theme being used by the site is the Twenty Ten theme.

  • You can look around the theme files to see if there is any menu hardcoded in there. If it is a the top of the page I’d start looking around the header file.

Re-upload a fresh copy of the theme and try.
