Support » Fixing WordPress » Truble with navigation bar

  • Hi,

I´m a new wordpress user and have just been handed the responsibility of updating the company’s web page. Before I started I had two hours of training so that adding pages and so on is ok. BUT already the first time I updated some pages I stumbled into trouble. All the pages in the navigation bar (top bar) changed from ex. About us to About us”>About us

I really hope someone can help me with this!!

  • Hello,

First of all check in admin-> Appearance -> Menu. option. And check the name properly given or not. Or if you add pages in menu then check page name in pages option. and if that is OK then check the menu display code in header file like this :

    <?php wp_nav_menu( array(‘menu’ => ‘Your Menu Name‘)); ?>

    Thank you,

    Thank you for your response!

As I explained I don’t know much about this so I follow your tips one by one. When I go to admin-> Appearance -> Menu I get the message: The current theme does not natively support menus, but you can use the “Custom Menu” widget to add any menus you create here to the theme’s sidebar.
It seems like I don’t have a menu?! Every page I add automatically go into the top navigation bar. To remove it I go to theme option->navigation settings->exclude pages og categories from top navigation.
    Does this change anything??

    The page name is ok!

And there is no code like: <?php wp_nav_menu( array(‘menu’ => ‘Your Menu Name’)); ?>

Try using another theme that does support custom menus – such as Twenty Eleven.

The problem is that this has been working fine for several years. It suddenly happened when I updated one of the pages.

Please guys, I really need some help here!!

Im trying once again….could somebody please help me with this!!

Here’s why no one is able to help. The theme you are using wasn’t made well at all. The menu’s are controlled entirely by the theme which appears to be custom made by these guys.
    You have three choices.
    1. Contact the designers and ask them to fix it. They might be convinced to fix it for free.
    2. Switch themes / purchase one. There are dozens of themes which will probably work better and look better than what you have.
    3. Hire an independent developer at

Thanks for the quick reply Matthew!

As I wrote I´m not an experienced WP user so I have to ask a “stupid” question since you brought the thread in a new direction.
Could I switch to an other similar theme but still use all the pages, sliders, top bar and so on that is already in my WP?! Or do we have to build the page from scratch in all cases?

So, I just found out something that will save you enormous amounts of trouble.
First look all over your menu for a “update framework” button.
The theme your site uses is a modified version of this theme. If the trick above doesn’t fix your problem, there is probably an update to the theme or a plugin that the designer can download to fix it. If not, then a better place to ask for help than here would be at because that is the them you are using and they would be more likely to know the ins and outs of the theme.
If nothing else works, you can deactivate the current them, buy the theme from woothemes, install it by their instruction and turn it on. Your setting will carry over from before, but you’ll have the benefit of any patches they made to the theme. (but you’ll lose any customizations the hired dev may have made, assuming they did anything beside rename the theme.)

I really can´t explain how thankful I am!! It actually worked!!
You saved me weekend (what´s left of it anyway, here in Norway). I really hope you have an excellent Saturday yourself.
    Thanks again.

You’re welcome. I hope you have an excellent weekend too.
