• Hi all –

I’m having some trouble getting my blog to work, and hoping someone with more knowledge than me can easily spot the error.

I’ve never used php or wordpress before, and I wanted to have a static front page that displayed posts tagged as “news” – but also have a blog page that displayed all posts.

Things got a little messy because I’m also trying to use wordpress as a content management system, so there are many things that I have as posts, that I don’t want to show up in my blog stream.

The biggest problem right now, is that if you go to my blog… random posts are showing up, and the navigation to go to “more posts” isn’t even showing up.

    My site is: http://www.2nimprov.com
the blog is supposed to be located at http://www.2nimprov.com/blog

Does this make sense? any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

    -jacob

  • Kind of makes sense… except if you messed up things 🙂

OK, the frontpage and posts page you set in the admin > Options > Reading.
NOTE: you must have those two Pages that you select already made in Write > Write Page before going there!

Don’t use “tagging” for your news – use a category called news, and follow the tutorial.

    What else was there?

My front page is working fine; it’s really the blog page that I’m having trouble with.

First, I should say that I misspoke earlier – – I am using categories, and not tags for my news.

I have my front page selected under admin>options>reading

I also have my blog page selected there, but when you actually view the blog page, it some weird stuff going on.

    Take a look:

For ‘posts’ page you should select an empty Page made with the default Page template (not some special template).

Where all that garbage on the left comes from?

Okay – I’ve changed the blog on the “admin>options>reading” page to be a new page that is on the default template

    http://www.2nimprov.com/news

    but the problem still exists.

I don’t know where the stuff on the left is coming from – if you look at my homepage (http://www.2nimprov.com) you’ll see that those four boxes are a post that shows upcoming events – – it looks like something on the blog page is making it repeat

Sorry to post twice, but I’ve just noticed that it doesn’t matter what page template I am using for my blog page; it always looks exactly the same.

So – it seems to not be taking information from my page templates.

    Very confusing.

    Anyone else have any ideas?
