Support » Fixing WordPress » Trouble with Sidebar Widgets on Template – Pls Advs

  • Hi I recently installed the theme “Bloggers Cafe 1.0” which you can see here: http://www.pinupbalm.com/store

    As you will see it is widgitized with the sidebar on the right.

    However, when I go to manage what does and doesn’t show in the sidebar – I am unable to access the widgit area to specify this.

    Instead, I get this message:

    “No Sidebars Defined

    You are seeing this message because the theme you are currently using isn’t widget-aware, meaning that it has no sidebars that you are able to change. For information on making your theme widget-aware, please follow these instructions.”

    I have uninstalled and re-installed this theme a couple of times, including fresh downloads to no avail.

    Am I just looking in the wrong place to specify what goes in the sidebar (ie remove categories, remove activities, remove meta etc) or is the code buggy somehow?

    I’ve pasted sidebar.php file here: http://wordpress.pastebin.ca/684571

  • The theme isn’t widget-ready. You’ll need to add the following to the top of the sidebar.php file (line 08):

    <?php if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar')
            || !dynamic_sidebar() ) : ?>

    and then at the end (line 143):

    <?php endif; ?>

    TECHNICALLY, you can get rid of everything in between, however you might not want to do that if you’re unsure which you’d prefer using, or if you’ve already added custom code in there and you haven’t put it in a widget yet.

    Thanks ladydelaluna, I added in that code, and re-uploaded the file however, it is still not working and I’m getting the error message. Here is a copy of where I inserted the code you provided. http://wordpress.pastebin.ca/685532

    I also tried the second option, of literally getting rid of everything in between, and that didn’t work for me either.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks again.

    http://wordpress.pastebin.ca/686023 try just putting in the dynamic sidebar function like I illustrated there, and see what happens.

    Make a backup copy first, of course! 😉

    Oh! Does that theme come with a functions.php file? If not, create it, and include this:

    <?php
    if ( function_exists('register_sidebar') )
    register_sidebar();
    ?>
