Trouble uploading photos

I have been trying to upload jpegs to the media library to display with the entry. I have tried both the flash and browser uploaders. I get the same result with either of them: I get a blank file even though I get a progress bar with the flash uploader.

I’m not really a computer whiz, so any help in plain English would help.
