Support » Fixing WordPress » Trouble trying to update plugins

  • This morning I noticed that my site (www.everydaytrish) was running really slow. I knew I had some updates to do so I figured I’d try those first and see if that was the issue. Trying to get into the WordPress admin area was also really lagging. Once I got in I started with updating the plugins and that was also taking forever.

That’s when I seem to have made an error in judgement by trying to refresh and try again. Now when I try to go to my site or do updates I get this message: “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.”

I went into my hosting control panel and did a backup and deleted the maintenance file (I read that doing this will clear the message and you can continue trying to do the updates) but it doesn’t seem to have fixed a thing.

I’m pretty new to this kind of stuff and I’m just at a loss now about what to do.

    Can anyone help?

  • Seems to be up and running ok now.

You’re on a old version of wordpress, and really should look to upgrade to the latest to protect you site from hackers.

    Your site is up now.

I’m even more confused now. Now when I try to go to my site it takes forever to load, but it does load eventually.

But now when I try to get into the WordPress admin I’m getting an internal server error. So I can even get in to the do the upgrades I need to do.

Is there a way to do an upgrade without having to get into the WordPress admin?

You site took 3 seconds for me to load – maybe the speed problem is your end (eg your PC)?

what exact error are you getting when you try admin?

    This is what I’m getting:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I was finally able to get on using TorBrowser on another computer, but even there I couldn’t get on with Chrome, IE or Firefox. It’s all very strange.

I got WordPress updated and installed an antivirus plugin just in case. But that still doesn’t solve the problem of not being able to login at all from certain browsers.

I feel like I’m missing something.

I got WordPress updated and installed an antivirus plugin

Using ftp or the file manager your host provides rename that plugin whatevermynameis-old.
