trouble installing

I’m having a difficult time installing wordpress. I downloaded the folder and unzipped it but cannot opeb wp-admin/install.php in my browser. I’ve now opened wp-config-sample.php with a text editor but i don’t know what my database connection details are or how to find them. Please help. I’m not sure how to precede. I’m working on a mac OS X version 10.6.8.
