• I am using the WP-Andreas01 theme. I am having trouble deleting posts and categories. It keeps saying this whenever I try to delete one of them…

“You don’t have permission to do that.”

I’ve never had this problem before. Here is my site.

  • Are you the administrator of the blog? Do you have top-level permissions?

Yes Im the Administrator. How do I check to see if I have Top Level Permissions? I went to the files in my hosting manager and made each file to be edited by me by changing the permissions.

    Jeff,

Just curious, is this a new theme you just installed? Have you tried checking the permissions (in your ftp manager of choice)?

I see you checked the permissions in your hosting manager – can you post what the permissions say?

    (@jeffprince)

Yea I went to my FTP manager and changed the permissions. Sure let me post what my permissions say for the file sidebar.php

    Mode User Group World
    Read
    Write
    Execute
    Permission

And I have them all checked. This is the way all my files are. Making them all 7’s.

    Jeff,

Have a look at this page in the codex: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions

Let us know if that helps you any, or if it’s even relevant.

Thanks for the link. But Ive got all those areas covered. I dunno why I cant delete the posts.

Boy, I don’t know Jeff – this is over my wee little head. I added a couple of tags to this post and hopefully one of the guru’s will take pitty on you (us) and will be able to provide more help than my limited wp skills.

    Good luck πŸ™‚

In the meantime, you may want to fire off an email to your host as well. If the permissions are all set correctly, maybe it’s a server issue?? Have you cleared the cache of your browser?

    Thread Starter jeffprince

    (@jeffprince)

Yea I’ve done that as well. It’s rediculous, haha.

Hopefully one of the guru’s can help haha. Thanks for your help though.!!

Not only that, take a look to see if you have a wp-content/cache folder. If so, delete it. Insert into your wp-config.php file the following line (below the first four “define” lines): define('DISABLE_CACHE', true);; once edited, upload it.

    See if that helps.

I just did all those. Cleared all my cache from my browser. Still says I dont have Permission to delete a post. πŸ™

Not the browser cache. Access your wp install using either your ftp client or your host control panel. Check within wp-content for a folder named “cache”. It’s not the browser cache….

I dont have a folder in my wp-content named “cache”. πŸ™

Well, that’s good in a way. However, it does beg the question!

At this point, I think you’d be well-advised to upgrade to 2.0.4 – that might sort the problem. If it doesn’t, well at least most of us who use wp and try to help out here will have the same version you have.

I just went through something similar to this on another project(ExtCalendar). You aren’t using PowWeb as your hosting company, are you? When hosting companies upgrade their systems, sometimes there are problems with how their new servers handle cookies:
    http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?t=65462&highlight=login+admin

Try logging in to your site, then visit your wp-admin page again. Does it give you the login screen again, even though you’ve already logged in? I hope it does. Then you know it’s a problem your hosting company needs to fix. The temporary fix for this is to just login twice. The second login should make it so you can get access to things.
