Hello David. My scenario. I am running for my picture Adobe lightroom with a Plugin WP/LR sync. This makes transferring my local pictures to my wordpress website. Is it possible to make MLA aware of this, that it makes the mapping automatically?

    Many thanks, Ernst-Wilhelm

Thanks for your question and for your patience in awaiting my response.

I think WP/LR Sync is excellent and have worked with the author to support it for some years now. I do not have Adobe Lightroom myself so my ability to test the combination is limited.

I have just installed the latest version of WP/LR Sync and run a quick test. It seems to be working on my system. If you are having trouble with it, can you tell me what mapping rules you are using?

Hi David. I am always pleased about your plugin and espacially your suppot. So no problem wih my waiting time.

    My mapping rules
    Title template:[+iptc:2#005+]
    Alt Text template:[+iptc:2#120+]. [+iptc:2#101+] [+iptc:2#090+] [+iptc:2#092+]. ([+iptc:2#015+]) ([+iptc:2#020+]) ([+iptc:2#025+]) ([+iptc:2#040+]) ([+iptc:2#105+]). [+iptc:2#116+]
    Caption template:[+iptc:2#120+]
    Description template:[+iptc:2#120+]. [+iptc:2#101+], [+iptc:2#090+] [+iptc:2#092+]. ([+iptc:2#015+]) ([+iptc:2#020+]) ([+iptc:2#025+]) ([+iptc:2#040+]) ([+iptc:2#105+]). [+iptc:2#116+]
    Att. categories template:([+iptc:2#015+]) ([+iptc:2#020+]) ([+iptc:2#040+]) ([+iptc:2#105+])
    Att. tags template:([+iptc:2#025+]) ([+iptc:2#090+])

I am concerned about the att. categories. In addition of the category fields from Lightroom (Cat + subCat) I want to use the content of certain IPTC fields (special instruction + headline) as cat. values.

All values appear in the cat. list, but if I try to search images assigned to these cat. values, I can’t find the images. After triggering the mapping funtion from a the edit screen then the assignments (for att. cat. + tags) are correct and will be find.

Thanks for your update with the additional information and the templates you are using. I want to make sure I understand the specifics of your experience.

You wrote “I am concerned about the att. categories.” Is that the only problem, i.e., are the rules and templates for other fields like Title, ALT Text and Caption working as you expect when you transfer pictures using WP/LR Sync?

You wrote “All values appear in the cat. list“. Do you mean the list of terms displayed on the Media/Att. Categories taxonomy screen? Or, do you mean that the terms appear in the “Att. Categories” column of the Media/Assistant submenu table? You can add that column to the table by pulling down the Screen Options area and checking the box to the left of Att. Categories.

On the Media/Att. Categories taxonomy screen, what is the value in the “Attachments” column at the right end of the table? If it is more than zero, what happens when you click on it to get a Media/Assistant submenu table filtered by the term value?

You wrote “if I try to search images assigned to these cat. values“. Can you tell me the steps you follow to “search images”?

Thanks for any additional details you can provide.

First Upload: Title, Alt Text, Caption, Description ok.
First Upload: att. cat. and att. tag embedded in image field Description (as wished).
    * Att. tag. in corresponding filter (switched) in the taxonomy screen of the plugin Not visible, hence not working as filter. *

Answer to question 1 (bold). My concerns are about att. categories and att. tags.
Answer to question 2 (bold). Att. categories are visible in the taxonomy screen. Att. tags are not visible.
Answer to question 3. The value in the “Attachments” column is zero.
Answer to question 4 (bold). The terms displayed in the filter of page=mla_menu () are not “filtering”.

Hopefully you can understand it better. Cheers

Thank you for the update with your answers to my questions. Please bear with me – I have some remaining questions about what you are experiencing.

It looks like the rules for standard fields like Title, Alt Text, Caption, Description are working as you want. That is good news and it means that the WP/LR Sync logic is working.

I am still trying to understand the separate behavior of the Att. Categories and Att. Tags taxonomies. You wrote “* Att. tag. in corresponding filter (switched) in the taxonomy screen of the plugin Not visible, hence not working as filter. *

    1) Does that mean that the template:([+iptc:2#025+]) ([+iptc:2#090+]) rule is not working at all?

    2) What does “corresponding filter (switched)” and “not working as filter” mean?

You wrote “The terms displayed in the filter of page=mla_menu () are not “filtering”“.

    3) Does “the filter of page=mla_menu ()” refer to the drop down control at the top of the Media/Assistant submenu table, i.e. you click “All Att. Categories”, select a specific term and click “Filter”?

I am trying to understand if the terms are being created in the taxonomy but not assigned to the new items being uploaded, and if the problem is unique to the WP/LR Sync operation.

    4) If you add the “Att. Categories” and “Att. Tags” columns to the Media/Assistant submenu table, are they empty after the WP/LR Sync operation and then non-blank after “triggering the mapping function from a the edit screen“?

    5) If you use the Media/Add New (Add New Media) admin screen to upload a new item, do the Att. Categories and Att. Tags rules work correctly, i.e. are the terms added and assigned to the items?

If you have access to your site’s error log I may be able to tell you how to add debug logging information that helps to determine what is going on. You can contact me at my web site for more information.

Thanks for you patience with my questions.

    1) As soon as I perform the mapping IPTC/EXIF manually, it works. Both taxonomies (att. categories, att. tags) will be assigned.
    2) The dropdown control “All Att. Categories” can be changed to “All Att. Tags” (=switch). In this case new terms not being displayed.
    3) Yes. Att. categories terms are being created but not assigned to new items being uploaded.
    4. Yes.
    5. Yes.

Thank you for answering my questions. I believe I understand what your experiencing.

I would like you to activate some logging, run more tests and send me the log data. I think it would be much easier to exchange instructions, information and log file content by email rather than updating this topic. I will post a summary when we have a solution.

Can you contact me at my web site for more information? Thank you.

    okay, thnx. Will contact you.

Thank you for working with me offline to determine the source of your problem, develop a fix and test it on your site.

The problem was that MLA’s taxonomy mapping rules failed to assign terms when run from the WP/LR Sync plugin’s update logic. The cause was a validation check that tested whether the logged-in user had permission to assign taxonomy terms. With the WP/LR logic, there was no logged-in user and thus the validation failed.

The MLA Development Version dated 20200707 contains a fix for this problem. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems or further questions regarding the fix. Thanks again for working with me to resolve this MLA defect.
