Support » Plugin: Tawk.To Live Chat » Tried two chat plugins – this was better

  • Very nicely conceived and functional plugin. Sign up was very easy, and implementation was intuitive (took about half an hour—including download to WP, signup on the Tawk site, widget configuration, and changing some wording of the messages—all available in the free version, and easy to do (just go to the ADMINISTRATION page).

The dashboard screens are impressive/modern without too much clutter, yet provide a lot of information, such as how long a given chat visitor has been on the site (in real time), which pages they visited, etc. Not much use to me, personally, but I suppose corporations might need this kind of monitoring ability depending on how they operate.

Color and several customization options for the chat widget are available, including dozens of graphics, but I ended up going with a simple chat bubble, color-matched to my website pages, and again easy to do. Integrates nicely. The message window is a little too large for my liking. I like the option to make the message window switchable between a simple, static pop-up OR a pop-out one that the visitor can freely move around and resize should it be obscuring anything they want to see on your site while they chat.

One of my fave features is the file upload button, which allows visitors to share files. This is excellent, and makes me consider doing away with the file upload plugin I have been using. One less plugin.

Page load takes a VERY slight knock, adding 20 or so ms, but hardly noticeable. If I do away with the file upload plugin I mentioned earlier, I would probably gain that back, hehe.

I’ll be fair to the other chat plugin I tried by saying it was OK, but Tawk is way better implemented. It reminds me a lot of the Weglot plugin, in terms of its combination of ease-of-use and sophisticated/slick implementation.

    Very good stuff.
