I just started using your plugin today. I’ve followed all of the documentation (to the best of my knowledge), but instead of the family tree displaying, I’m getting an empty gray box. Occasionally I can see a flash of what looks like the family tree before the gray box loads. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Update: nothing has changed and I have tried a ton of stuff. That said, the latest thing I noticed, is there’s no ID on the Family Groups page. There was for a time, because I saw it, it was 11, but now it’s blank, which I suspect is the root of the problem (it is selected in the Screen Options area).

I am using Gutenberg 5.1.1, and the Genesis-based theme from Studio Press called Altitude Pro. The site is on a fully functional test server, and this is one of the last items we’re working on before we go live. Any help is greatly appreciated!

This is a static family tree that won’t be added to frequently, if at all, so the free version is best, but we (my company) will be building out another site later this month, and if we can get this figured out, we will be buying the Pro version for that site.

Thanks again for your help, Dave

    HI

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Have you:

1 Added the shortcodes to the pages for the tree and family report?
2 Included the Family Group ID in those shortcodes?
3 Added the two page links created in (2) in the Family Group page on the back end?
4 Ensured your family members are assigned to the Family Group you are trying to display?

You can find full set up instructions, with videos, here

I had a similar problem because the plugin “Autooptimize” was activated. I had to exclude the treepress-public.js in the Autooptimize’s options. I hope this information is helpful.

i looked through my plugins, because, you’re right, they can definitely cause conflicts, but I’m not using AutoOptimize, or anything similar. I have Smush and WP Fastest Cache downloaded and ready for when we go live, but they aren’t currently activated. Thanks for the tip @miguelangbernal, and if I don’t hear back from the developer, I might try turning my plugins off, to see if it’s something unexpected. I am getting desperate, this is an important client, and I don’t want to keep them waiting for this. Please help soon!

    Hi

Not sure what you mean – if you don’t hear back from the developer – as I responded already with several suggestions? Did you try the ideas I suggested above?

You should definately do a plugin clash check and also a theme check. You should also try switiching Gutenberg off – or adding the Classic plugin and switching it off for the pages with the tree, although I am not currently aware of any problems with Gutenberg.

Let me know how you get on. But do try my previous suggestions as well.

I´m working with the plugin in this moment. I use the shortcode with this format: [family-tree family=’52’ root=’1932′].
The id 1932 corresponds with the number of a child, not parents. If I use one of the parent’s numbers I see nothing. May be your case @maxcreative.
I hope my comments are useful for both users and developers.
    Regards.

Thank you @miguelangbernal (let me know seperately if you need assistance with this)

@maxcreative I have found your support ticket (it had gone into a spam folder) and replied seperately.

    Hi

Thanks for the logon. There were a couple of issues with the set up:

1 – You specified the family tree link in the family group page as
    https://domain/racing-family-history/
but the shortcode was actually in this page:
    https://domain/family-tree-test/

2 – Also you have to be really careful not to change the speech marks in the short code. You had
    [family-tree family=’11’ root=”1590″]
    but it should be
    [family-tree family=’11’ root=’1590′]

It’s working now. Please check and let me know if it’s okay for you.

I’m still trying to work out why the ID does not show. The correct family ID is 25

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks for the assist!

It was on two pages, the page “family-tree-test” was a blank test page, to make sure nothing else on the page was causing the problem. I have updated the other page, and it’s working now too.

Seems like the ID was the main issue, but now that we know it’s ’25’, all seems good. I figured it had to be something simple, but since I couldn’t see the ID, I was at a loss.

As long as the ID doesn’t change, we should be good, but maybe for others who might run into this problem, how did you find out what the ID was?

Again, thank you for your assistance, and darn those spam folders 🙂

If you mouse over the family group ‘edit’ button you normally can see the ID in a string of code that appears in the browser’s bottom left corner in light grey text. This is true for most links so even if it’s not showing, you can find it there.

I think there may be an issue with the theme which is what’s causing the ID problem.
