    Hello all,

Today, when I wanted to update a plugin from WordPress admin panel directly, I noticed the default wordpress maintenance message was in english instead of in french.

It was weird, because previous updates put the correct maintenance message, in french. Here is what I’ve checked:
    – Language defined in the admin panel: French > OK
    – Language files .mo & .po: fr_FR.mo & fr_FR.po > OK
    – Content of the language files with the translation > OK

So I guess it’s an issue from the function wp_maintenance() in the file wp-includes/load.php where wp_load_translations_early() doesn’t work correctly.

To my point of view, it should come from an upgrade of WordPress.

Do you have the same issue?
Would you know how to solve it?

    Thanks in advance!

Do you have a picture of this? Also, have you made sure that all your translation updates are up to date?

    Hi Matthew,

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes I can provide you a screenshot of the message saying “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.”. But it’s only a black text without any formatting.

Yes the translations are fine, as I could find the translated message for this sentence in the fr_FR.po, and the translation was for the line 191 of load.php, which is the right line to translate (I checked it).

    Any other idea?

As fas as I understand, it seems that at this stage, WordPress doesn’t know the language of the blog is french, and so, doesn’t look for the french language of the sentence. Would it be possible?

If you have the language in your dashboard set to French then all the text in your admin show display in French. Have you tried maybe setting the language to Spanish to see if the notice is still in English or not?

    Hello,
Oui temuag j’ai remarqué cela aussi aujourd’hui 🙂
I have got the same plugin as you and nothing is translated today, very strange, but I noticed the same issue some days ago, and not only in this plugin. I though as you that was coming from a WP upgrade..
I really don’t know, but I confirm you are not alone.
Do you think we try to post on the support forum of the plugin ? Either there is a support option integrated in the plugin (section “Support”). I wrote him one time and the author reply under 48h and he is nice.

    Hello Matthew,
Yes I tried just now. WP downloaded all the dashbord in spanish but the plugin stay in english. Same thing when I go back to french. Dashbord come back in french but the plugin stay in english :/

Dashbord come back in french but the plugin stay in english

What to you mean by the plugin. Is it a plugin notice? Can you please provide a picture?

Yes, still the same even if I put the language to Spanish: the notice is still in english.

ben69007, I do not have any plugin regarding the maintenance mode, it’s the native functionality of WP.

@ben69007: If think you have a different problem then @temuag. If your problem is with a plugin then please post a new topic in there plugin support forum.

@temuag: Can you please provide a picture of the message?

Ohh.. Sorry my bad. Yes I though you were talking about the Maintenance Mode plugin (which has the same translation problem today). Sorry.
    Yes, sure Matthew.

Try deactivating all plugins. If the notice shows up in French then reactivate each plugin individually until you find the cause.

I don’t think plugins can have an impact, as in maintenance mode, all the WP site is deactivated.

Just, do you see the same thing in your blog?

Just, do you see the same thing in your blog?

I can’t seem to get it to show up.

After contacting the polyglots team we have come to the conclusion that this is an error in WordPress. The maintenance text always appears in English no matter what language your dashboard is in. Although the maintenance text is translated into French (you can see it at https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp/dev/fr/default?filters%5Bstatus%5D=either&filters%5Boriginal_id%5D=7090&filters%5Btranslation_id%5D=236782), it doesn’t display in French. A ticket has been opens about this issue (#30049).
