• Hello, this is İrem from PisaKitap. [Pisakitap is a webpage based on Pressbooks and it is also based on WordPress.]. First of all, I don’t know if this is the right forum to explain this issue. We have a problem about Turkish Translations. (Some plugins and some menus no translated English to Turkish) Before I write there, I contacted Pressbooks team, and they said that, they do not support third party plugin. So after that I contacted Plugin developer. He said that, Pressbooks or WordPress does not update your website. That’s why I’m writing you. By the way, Pressbooks using 5.5.3 version. How we update this?

    Thanks in advance.
    -İrem.

I’m not entirely sure what you’re referring to.

Do you mean a specific plugin is not fully translated? If so, you’ll need to contact that plugin’s support and/or contribute a translation to the plugin’s developer yourself.

WordPress itself only provides the translations for WordPress itself, it does not provide translations for plugins and themes.

Actually not only plugins but some menus in the website are half translated. There are half English and half Turkish expressions. For example, the whole page is in Turkish but search button in English. I contacted to the plug-in developer. He said it might be about updating. Because the plugin is actually in the TR language code, but it looks in English.

If it’s on the front-end of the site, you’ll need to contact your theme’s support and/or contribute a translation to the theme’s developer yourself.

Unless that portion of the site’s front-end is powered by the plugin, then it’s likely still the plugin’s responsibility.

WordPress’s Turkish translation for WordPress 5.6.x itself is 99% complete https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/tr/ so only about 1% of what WordPress provides in the back and front ends will wind up being English. Specifically, it’s this: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp/dev/tr/default/?filters%5Btranslated%5D=yes&filters%5Bstatus%5D=waiting

If you’re interested, you can help them cover that last 1% by following the steps at https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/?locale=tr_TR

Thanks for detailed explanations @macmanx. I’ll try to help @iremakillilar.

Hello İrem, I’m the GTE of Turkish (tr_TR) locale. I want to invite you to our local Slack and meet you there. The problem you encounter is probably not from WordPress core, rather misconfiguration or plugin/theme related. We can work together and find a solution.

    Best,
    Emre
