Support » Theme: Customizr » Translating Breadcrumbs

    And I want to translate a site (mostly the breadcrumb ‘Home’) into the local language (Marathi).

    So, I:

    – Downloaded default.po from wp-content/theme/customizr/inc/lang
    – Edited it using poedit (searched for ‘Home’ and changed it) and saved it. This created two files mr.po and mr.mo
    – Uploaded these to wp-content/theme/customizr-child/inc/lang folder
    – Selected ‘Marathi’ from Settings -> General -> Language

    This translates the whole website in Marathi (including dashboard and notification bar text) EXCEPT the changes I had made while generating the mr.po and mr.mo files. The ‘Home’ breadcrumb is still in English

    What is happening here? How do I set this right?

  • Hi there,
    thanks for reporting this.
    Could you please share a link to your website?

    Sure.

    It is binchook-marathi.efinso.in

    Hi there,
    the lang files should be kept in the parent theme folder.
    Did you try to upload them in wp-content/theme/customizr/inc/lang ?

    Best regards

    No. I had not. Because I thought I was supposed to make ALL modifications to the child theme. But after reading your reply, I did and it worked perfectly. A Big thanks!

    FWIW, there were no mr.po and mr.mo files in customizr/inc/lang folder.

    The question is, when I upgrade the theme, will my customizations (language part) be lost?

    Hi,

    If you use child theme you have two ways for save your translation files from deleting during upgrade the theme.

    First way (simpler)
    1. Rename your files:
    mr.mo -> customizr-mr.mo
    mr.po -> customizr-mr.po
    2. copy the files here:
    wp-content/languages/themes

    Second way
    (if you want to have all your work in the child folder)
    1. Create or edit the file functions.php in the folder wp-content/themes/your_child_theme and add this code:

    add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'my_child_theme_setup' );
    function my_child_theme_setup() {
    load_child_theme_textdomain( 'customizr', get_stylesheet_directory() . '/inc/lang' );
    }

    For creating/editing use some program like Notepad++ with option “UTF-8 without BOM”.

    2. copy your files mr.mo and mr.po here:
    wp-content/themes/your_child_theme/inc/lang

    Try both ways looking at the “Home” textstring. It is possible you will see this string in your language using the first way. Sometimes translations works differently depending on the location of po/mo files.

    PS. I forgot – you can also try to rename mr.*o to customizr-mr.*o in the folder wp-content/themes/your_child_theme/inc/lang

    PS.2 read also this.

    PS.3 if you want to replace the string “Home” with the Font Awesome icon, read this. (It’s about another theme, but Customizr is Font Awesome-ready I suppose.

    @michał, thanks a lot. The first and the second options work perfectly. The PS1 option does not. I chose the second option. That keeps all my customizations in only one folder.

    I’m glad I could help.
