Transferring wordpress images to new host

I know this has likely be brought up but i simply cannot find it, I transferred wordpress to a new host and imported the xml file, all of the images are of course pointing to the new host, i copied the existing images folder from the old host to the new host now I was wondering how I can make it so that images that were once shown as attachments on the old post show as attachments on the new server, as of right now they only show as linking to the old host and not as attachments.

If i do a search and replace for all instances of the old blog in the database and point it to the new images folder would wordpress then show them as actual attachments? Otherwise I am up shit’s creek and therefore have to do everything manually on hundreds of blog posts…
